01/18/2013 - 2013 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Travis continued to show his ability to play the game at a high level and with phenomenal foot speed. At the plate, his athletic setup, fast bat speed, and extension through contact, keep him with a line-drive approach. He has good rhythm and moves down the line - continuously pressuring the defense. At second, he was aggressive to come get balls and worked with sure hands. Travis is a strong young player that will be a threat in any line-up.

10/10/2012 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic Chavez continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 6o time to date, now a superior runner at 6.54. He utilizes his quick feet well as he moves well laterally, displaying range in the MIF. Hands / feet work well through an aggressive approach as he displays outstanding instincts. Throws are accurate but needs to continue to build arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, Travis shows a balanced approach with rhythm. Hands are quick, generating bat speed through a level swing path. He competes at the plate and shows a solid feel for the barrel with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered. At the event, he was 3 for 9 with a 2B. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a feel for the game and plays hard.

07/29/2012 - Under Armour Southwest Regional Tournament Chavez continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate is where he has improved the most through an athletic setup with balance. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed to and through the ball at contact. He shows plus barrel accuracy with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered. Once on the bases, he utilizes his quick feet to put pressure on defenses. At 2B, feet are active as he attacks ground balls and plays through well, displaying clean hands. Mental makeup is a plus as his very coachable and works hard.

05/20/2012 - College PREP - Mesa (Phoenix), AZ Travis is a 2B who will graduate in 2013. Defensively, footwork is fluid/active with sure hands and a quick clean exchange. Range is agile staying light on his feet as he fields the ball out in front of his body. Fielding grades will improve by attacking the baseball with more of an aggressive first step. At the plate, Travis shows an athletic setup with a good load and the ability to drive the ball from gap-to-gap. Swing path is on plane displaying good pitch selection. His swing will continue to improve with more extension and finish in his lower half. With consistent work on the areas above Travis will continue to see improvement in his overall baseball skills.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
