08/09/2010 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Travis showed similar skills at Team One Northeast as has he has done in previous workouts. Behind the plate, Travis has an athletic set-up, he lets the ball travel, and he is not afraid to get in front of the baseball. He has a clean exchange from glove to hand and throws accurately to his target. Travis can improve defensively if he can quicken his release and add arm strength. At the plate, Travis has a good set-up, quick hands, and has a line drive approach. He has good bat speed, he centers the ball well, and can hit to all fields. Hitting can further improve with more direct hands to the ball and help hitting the inside pitch.

07/25/2010 - Exclusive Filming Shoot - MD 3 Travis continues to improve as he improved his 60-time, receiving grade, and blocking grade at this event. At the plate, showed a good awareness of the strike zone as he was able to cover all pitches. Had an aggressive approach with the ability to keep hands inside the ball and drive it to all fields. Demonstrated direct hands to the hitting zone with a level swing. Had the ability to transfer his weight and effectively use his lower half. Behind the plate, good athletic setup allowed him to show low target with ability to stick pitches with minimal body sway. While blocking, went down first to cover hole with proper angle to center and deaden in front of him. His athleticism allowed him to take proper angles with ability to recover if in dirt. Stringent long toss program will help improve velocity. Had quick foot work and glove-to-hand transfer that allowed for accurate throws to 2B.

06/27/2010 - Team One South 2010 Travis showed similar skills at Team One South as he did in previous workouts. Behind the plate, has has good footwork, sure hands, and he blocks and receives the ball well. He has a pop time as low as 2.09, and he delivers the ball with some carry to his target. Offensively, Travis is an aggressive hitter with quick hands and a level swing. He has good balance, good bat speed, and a short stroke. Travis can turn on the inside pitch well, and the ball jumps of his bat nicely. Hitting can further improve with better backside rotation and more use of his lower 1/2.

01/15/2010 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2010 Travis showed in the OF for the first time and displayed solid average abilities in his defensive play. He shows solid body control but needs to be more aggressive in his feet. Throws display plus carry into his target as his hands and feet work well together in getting rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, hitting grades have improved through a solid approach. Swing path is short and direct, generating bat speed as he works to stay inside utilizing all fields. He is aggressive as he was 4 for 5 with a 2B and 2 BB displaying a solid eye at the plate.

10/11/2009 - College PREP - Baltimore, MD Travis continues to work hard which showed with an improved velocity at this event. At the plate, good setup with quiet actions allowed him to have quick direct hands to hitting zone. Demonstrated good bat speed with the ability to center all balls. Showed the ability to hit balls to all fields as the ball jumped off the barrel. Behind the plate, had good direction with accurate throws to 2B. Pop times will improve as he stays low to throw and as velocity increases. While receiving, stayed behind ball with firm wrist and soft hands. Was able to get around pitches and stick them. While blocking, moved well laterally as he took proper angles to center and deaden ball in front of him.

07/10/2008 - Cape Cod Training 2008 - Week 1 60-yard dash down from 7.93 to 7.86. Hands and bat speed good at plate, hitting up from average to solid average. Power up from average to solid average. Athletic behind plate, and enough to play OF as well. Improved from Tier C to Tier B.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
