06/05/2011 - College PREP - Atlanta, GA Tray is a solid, thick catcher that will graduate in 2012. Foot speed speed is slightly above average as he will benefit by getting on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active behind the plate but he needs to work on gaining ground while working in line through a low approach. Transfer / exchange are clean but long causing a slow release. Pop times show a range of 2.33-2.51. He will benefit by getting on a long toss program to build more arm strength with carry on throws. Receiving and blocking skills are near to below average needing further instruction and development to play at the next level. Offensively, Reed shows a balanced setup and uses his lower half well. Swing path is long with barrel getting out around the baseball, creating a pull type swing. He needs to work on keeping hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will increase as he learns to load more and transfer weight from backside into a firm front. Tray has abilities with a lot of room to improve.
