Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

01/13/2012 - 2012 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Byers showed similar abilities as we had previously seen at Team One Northeast. He has improved his power numbers at the plate as he displays strength in his swing. He loads well and uses his lower half with his hands attacking the ball. Power numbers will continue to improve as he keeps the barrel through the ball at contact. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Defensive grades will continue to improve as he learns to present his hands more out front. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 80-83 mph with slight arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with tight spin. Change-up is average showing slight arm side run.

07/24/2011 - Team One Northeast 2011 Tyler is a solid 1st baseman / RHP with average size. Defensively, Tyler has active feet, clean hands, and he makes plays on balls hit his way. He keeps the ball in front, his exchange is quick and clean, and he throws with life and carry to his target. Tyler can improve defensively by fielding further out in front of his body and by playing more through the ball. On the mound, Tyler has a good set-up, he keeps his eyes to his target, and he competes in the zone. He has a FB that touches 85 MPH, he gets outs, and pitches to contact. A longer arm action, staying tall, and more extension, should help mound effectiveness get better. Offensively, Tyler has a solid set-up, quick hands, and good balance. He has good bat speed and barrel accuracy and he stays inside the baseball. Tyler makes good use of his lower 1/2 and the ball jumps when properly centered. Staying short to the ball, and not wrapping his bat during his load can help further improve numbers.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
