Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/LHPPosition Projection

03/24/2013 - College PREP - Bowie, MD Cross continues to work on his game and improve. He lowered his 60 time, now running a 7.57. This lefty pounds the zone with his 4-pitch mix and throws strikes with all of his pitches. CH is best off-speed pitch showing sink and fade. Getting on top of his CB will improve it's effectiveness. Defensively at 1B, Tyler works around the ground ball and keeps the ball in front. The tall built 1B is a big target and has the ability to pick balls out of the dirt. As a hitter, Tyler displays a closed setup, short and simple approach and direct swing path. He is a slap type hitter and puts the ball in play. This LHP continues to improve in his game through hard work.

07/22/2012 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition - Session 4 Tyler showed average abilities on the mound, working on a downhill plane, a high leg kick, and his FB having A/S run. He stays over the rubber well, works both sides of the plate, and he attacks hitters. Offensively, Tyler has a good set-up, a level swing path, and he has a tall back side.

03/18/2012 - College PREP - Bowie, MD Tyler is a young, average sized, 2-way player who pitches and plays 1st base. On the hill, Tyler has a long / loose arm action, a controlled balance point, and on-time separation. He keeps his shoulders level, he works down in the zone, and he finishes in a complete position. More glove side lead and adding arm strength will help mound effectiveness improve. At 1B, Tyler has playable hands and feet and he can pick the ball out of the dirt. He has a clean exchange and throws with a long arm with accuracy to his target. Lighter feet, looser actions, and adding arm strength can help improve defensive abilities. Offensively, Tyler has a closed stance, average bat speed, and direct hands to the ball. He has a level swing, a line drive approach, and he makes consistent contact. Improved balance, better rhythm / timing, and using more lower 1/2 can help offensive numbers spike.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
