Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/SSPosition Projection

06/27/2010 - Team One South 2010 Tyler showed similar skills at Team One as he has done in previous workouts. He improved his hitting grades, and lower his 60 time from 7.35 to 7.23. At 3B, Tyler has loose / fluid actions, and his feet play well. He has soft / sure hands, a smooth backhand, and an easy arm with carry across the diamond. On the mound, Tyler has a balanced approach and he works in good rhythm. He keeps his eyes to his target well and inline and on-time. Tyler throws strikes and he mixes up his pitches well. At the plate, Tyler has good balance and bat speed. He has an easy approach and he stays inside the baseball. Improved barrel accuracy and a more on time lower 1/2 will help offensive numbers get even better.

06/13/2009 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - Week 1 Tyler is a young, 2012 graduate two-way player on the mound and at SS with a tall, rangy body that shows projection as he continues to physically mature and fill out. Foot speed is average and he will benefit by getting on a speed / agility program to improve foot speed for the next level. Feet are active and aggressive in coming to get and playing through the baseball with his feet and hands, displaying solid average defensive abilities. Glove action is soft, clean, and sure in making all the plays. He looks the part in the middle of the IF with a ton of potential through his athletic actions. Arm strength is solid average displaying life and carry across the diamond. He needs to get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength, raising velocities. At the plate, hitting abilities are slightly above average with solid average power. Swing path gets long but shows a solid feel for the barrel to the pull side. Power will increase as he learns to utilize his lower half more efficiently through the swing. On the mound, fastball shows late sinking action, sitting at 78-82 mph. Breaking ball is best off speed pitch displaying an 11/5 shape with tight spin and late downward action. Changeup shows solid feel for with late sink. He attacks hitters with all his pitches as he hits his spots. With 3 years to further develop, Humphreys has a ton of potential with the makings of a solid player as he continues to develop.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
