01/18/2013 - 2013 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Tyler is an intimidating presence on the mound with his 6'8" frame. Despite his size, he is an outstanding athlete and it shows in his ability to repeat his delivery. His fastball sat comfortably in the upper 80s at this January event, though we have seen more velocity from him in the past. His fastball has life and gets on hitters in a hurry. At times, it also shows heavy sink. He complements that ground ball inducing offering with a curveball that is a swing and miss pitch. It has depth and bite to it. He also flashes a change that is in the development stage and will eventually complete his 3-pitch mix. Tyler also is a adept around the bag at 1B and swings the bat with authority. He has a legitimate chance to be a 2-way player at the college level, though his biggest upside is certainly on the mound.

10/10/2012 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic Huth continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities, especially on the mound. Arm strength has improved as he topped out at 91 mph. Fastball showed a range of 86-91 mph with slight arm side run. Breaking ball is a quality pitch that will get outs at the next level, displaying 10/4 shape with late sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are soft / clean and he shows the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. At the plate, Tyler shows a balanced approach with quick hands that generate bat speed through the zone. He has strength in his swing with the baseball exploding off his bat when centered. At the event, he was 4 for 11 with a 2B. Mental makeup is a plus as he plays with confidence and maintains a solid presence.

07/16/2012 - 2012 Team One Midwest Showcase Tyler is a tall and lean right-handed pitcher and spends time at 1B as well. In the infield, he has an aggressive mentality and has a low approach to the ball, along with plenty of life in his arm. His defensive abilities should continue to develop as he learns to soften his hands and funnel the ball to the center of his body. At the plate, he has easy actions and strong hands that allow him to hit the ball hard to all fields. His offensive tools should continue to improve as he learns to stay inside the ball and finish his swing through contact. On the mound, he has an easy arm action and strong balance that allows him to work down in the zone. His abilities on the mound should continue to develop as he learns to maintain a strong front side throughout his delivery. As a 2013 graduate, Tyler has the opportunity to continue to develop his skills in preparation for the next level.

03/04/2012 - College PREP - Indianapolis, IN Tyler is a tall, thick, athletic, 2-way player who pitches and plays 1B. On the mound, Tyler has a long arm action, a controlled balance point, and he keeps his eyes on target. He has level shoulders, good direction toward home, and he competes in the zone with his pitches. Lengthening his back arm action and finishing off his pitches can help mound effectiveness improve. At 1st base, Tyler has sure hands, efficient footwork, and he fields in an athletic position. He takes good angles to the ball, makes plays, and his exchange is clean. Tyler has a long / quick arm action and he throws with life to his target. Offensively, Tyler has a square set-up, a short / square stride, and good balance. He is a strong hitter with good bat speed, he makes consistent contact, and he uses his lower 1/2 well. More separation can only help solid numbers get even better.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
