Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

06/22/2013 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 Tyler improved his hitting grade at the event. He displays an athletic setup with hands working through a short / compact swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. At 3B, he works to square balls up and makes the routine plays. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 61-64 mph on a slight downhill plane. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break and does a nice job of throwing it consistently for a strike. Stock on mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

02/23/2013 - Hitting Accelerated Training Weekend (Ages 12-14) Tyler is a young athletic ball player who has a very solid base to his swing. His swing will only improve with growth and maturity. Tyler displays great rhythm to his swing, he displays a relax setup with a very smooth load, and a short short square stride, this allows him to get into a solid launch position. Tyler needs to focus on his body connection, at times his hands and his body does not work together, this takes away from his barrel accuracy and also his power. The main reason this happens his because he does not let the baseball travel into the hitting zone. If he lets the baseball travel his body will stay better connected, and also his back side will work much better, this will increase the contact and the power.

09/30/2012 - College PREP - Scranton, PA Tyler has showed solid improvement since we last saw him in Cape. He lowered his 60 time, and improved all of his grades. Defensively at 3B, he shows soft/sure hands and active footwork. He works well to his backhand and makes strong/accurate throws across the diamond. On the mound, he has good glove side lead, keeps his eyes on the target and is around the plate with all of his pitches. He repeats his delivery well and maintains smooth rhythm. At the plate, Tyler's hitting and power numbers increased. He displays an athletic/open setup and solid load. He swings on a level path and has the ability to spray the ball. Tyler is still young and will continue to improve with hard work.

07/17/2012 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition - Session 3 Tyler is a well built/solid 2016 graduate who is a RHP/2B. On the mound he has good arm action, throws strikes with all of his pitches, he has good balance/rhythm and very solid overall mechanics. He needs to bend more on his finish and continue to work on polishing his fundamentals. In the infield Tyler has a square fielding position, clean hands, efficient footwork and playable range. He needs to improve his footspeed and agility. At the plate Tyler needs to focus his work on the fundamentals. More specifically he needs to use his lower half more, stride at the pitcher and develop a smoother stride/load. Tyler is a hard worker who is good at making adjustments. If he continues to work and make adjustments he can find a lot of success in the future.

12/27/2011 - Vero Beach Christmas Camp and Tournament Tyler is a thick/solidly built kid who is a RHP/2B. On the mound, he showed some good arm action, he threw strikes and has a solid delivery. He will gain velocity if he uses his glove side more, stays closed longer and avoids landing on his heel. In the infield, Tyler uses two hands but he tends to stab at the ball (field from low to high). His footwork is efficient but he needs to be more aggressive. He needs to work on his fielding position (get lower) and also work on his agility/speed. It will help for Tyler to field the ball out front more and play through the ball. At the plate, he has a hands back load, square stride, strong balance and very good bat speed. He needs to use his lower half more and use the entire field as he has a tendency to pull too much. Tyler hit the ball very well in Vero and showed a real enthusiasm for the game. He is a great kid who has all the ability to be a very good player in the future.

11/10/2011 - Pirate City Select Training - 2011 (Pre HS) Tyler is a 2016 graduate who is a RHP and also plays 2B.On the mound he showed a high 3/4 arm slot, a controlled balance point, seperation is on-time, good tempo, he is in-line and he has an athletic finish. Tyler's fastball was 62-64 mph which he threw for strikes and his curveball had a 10/4 shape with sharp break but he is a little erratic with it. In the infield he displayed efficient footwork, uses two hands, average arm strength, playable range and square fielding position. Tyler needs to field the ball out in front of his body and keep his weight slightly forward. At the plate he has a short stride, timing is good, makes hard/consistent contact and he has average bat speed. Tyler needs to develop a smooth stride/load and use his lower half to the fullest extent. He possesses well above average power right now so if he uses his lower half more his power numbers will be impressive. Tyler is a very solid young player who has all the ability to be very successful in baseball if he works at it.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
