01/15/2010 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2010 Tyler continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.15 runner. He utilizes his quick, athletic feet well in working in line to his target, showing a quick release as he threw his best pop time to date, at 1.94. Throws display life, carry, and accuracy into his target. Receiving and blocking skills are quality tools that will play at the next level. Offensively, hands are efficient working through the zone as he displays extension through the zone. Power will increase as he learns to load more, transferring weight properly through the swing.

12/27/2009 - Christmas Camp and Tournament #2 Tyler is a catcher with a strong, durable, and athletic body that is well suited for his position. Foot speed is a plus as indicated by his 7.34 as he utilizes his quick feet well in working in line with hands and feet working together in getting rid of the baseball quickly. Throws display carry and accuracy into his target so he will control the running game as indicated by his low 2.05 pop time. Receiving and blocking skills are quality tools that will play at the next level as he shows off his athletic abilities in working to keep all balls in front through the blocking process. At the plate, Qualls continues to shine through an aggressive approach. He keeps hands inside the baseball, showing solid power to all fields. Tyler has the makings to be a solid collegiate catcher and will get looks from the college coaches.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
