10/06/2012 - 2012 Team One Texas Showcase Smith showed as a two-way player at 3B and on the mound for the first time. Currently, he projects best at 3B for the next level. Feet are active as he attacks ground balls and squares up well, displaying soft / clean / sure hands as he makes the plays. He gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy on his throws. At the plate, Tyler shows an athletic setup and solid approach. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing with the baseball exploding off his bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to work to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 71-76 mph with glove side run. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with big, gradual break. Changeup is his best off speed pitch, showing a solid feel for with late sink. Command / control are a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will rise as more arm strength is gained.
