01/15/2010 - Vero Beach Spring Training & Competition - 2010 Turner is a young player with a large and athletic frame, has good physical upside considering he was not yet 14 years old at this event. He lowered his 60-yard dash slightly, down a tenth from 8.04 to 7.94. He showed some strength in his left handed stroke, mainly in his hands and arms. Needs to work to reach an athletic position in his stance, and then to maintain athletic positions through his swing in order to involve more of his body - straighten back and chest, get eyes level with ground, and move shoulders more over balls of feet. Defensively, he was aggressive to the ball in the outfield. Can work to improve his routes and angles to the ball, and needs to raise his arm angle to improve carry and accuracy on throws. On the mound, he threw his fastball up to 70 mph. Much like at the plate, he needs to reach more athletic positions in his delivery. Must get more upright, and needs to work to keep his legs underneath him better. In addition, can work to loosen his wrist action at release, tended to be a bit stiff - one of the main hindrances he faces in developing his secondary pitches. Overall, has potential to develop into a better overall player given improvements in his flexibility and overall body control.
