Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

10/12/2011 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic - 2011 Tyler showed very well against top competition at the Arizona Senior Fall Classic. He has a tall, athletic frame and 2-way potential at the next level. At the plate, Tyler gets the barrel to the ball and it comes off loud. He has pull-side power and quick hands. In the field he moves around the 1B bag very well. His hands are sure and he moves his feet well to get into fielding position. On the mound, Tyler possesses a three-pitch mix: low 80s sinking fastball, 10-4 shaped curveball and a circle change. He throws all three for strikes and is aggressive with his fastball. Overall, Tyler's highest ceiling still looks to be as a middle-of-the-order bat at the next level, but he will be able to contribute out of the bullpen for the right program as well.

08/21/2011 - College PREP - Lebanon (Nashville), TN Tyler is a tall, athletic two-way player at 1B and on the mound that will graduate in 2012. Currently, he projects best at 1B for the next level. Offensively, Vaughn continues to shine as he displays outstanding hitting abilities with superior power through an athletic setup. Hands are aggressive and quick, generating plus bat speed to and through the baseball. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Barrel accuracy is solid with the baseball exploding off his bat as he displays plus power potential to all fields. He will hit and hit with power at the next level. Foot speed is above average as indicated by his 7.12 60 time. Feet are active and athletic as he displays proper footwork around the bag. He attacks ground balls, playing through well as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Glove action is soft, clean, and sure as he consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. Hands are outstanding as he makes all the plays. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 79-83 mph. Breaking ball is best off-speed pitch, displaying 11/5 shape with late depth and shows potential as being a quality out pitch. Changeup shows decent feel for with fading action. Command / control can be an issue as he needs to work on throwing more strikes with all his pitches. Tyler has the makings to be a special type player with his offensive and defensive abilities and will get a lot of looks form the collegiate coaches.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
