  • OF/LHPPosition Projection

06/21/2024 - College World Series Experience - Session 2 Tyson is an athletic 5ft 11/158 OF/LHP in the 2026 class. He recently performed at the Omaha experience and played with an aggressive and hard nature. He never took a pitch off and was engaged. He was an excellent teammate and strived to improve with each rep. Defensively, he plays on the balls of his feet and his feet are smooth. Arms plays at 87 velo and has life and carry. On the mound he showed promise if he can harness his actions. Working to stay balanced and keep his eyes level, will provide smoother actions. He worked 2 innings and allowed two hits. With a strikeout. FB sat 71-3 and scouts feel there is more in the tank. Breaking pitch sat 56-7 with 1-7 shape. Had a great week at the plate with 4 hits and a BB. He hits with a quiet head and allows his backside to travel through the baseball. Overall, Tyson is an athletic player and when he harnesses his aggressiveness, he can become a complete player.

04/07/2024 - National Showcase - Charlottesville, VA Tyson is a lean, and athletic OF/LHP who has a promising future on the diamond. In the OF, defensive abilities are solid as he displays smooth fluid actions. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls plays through with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate with carry (84 mph velocity) to his target. At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 77-78 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with tailing action. Slider is harder with short break Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 2 years to further develop, Tyson has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
