12/27/2009 - Christmas Camp and Tournament #2 Litton ran 7.38 in the 60-yard dash, a slight improvement over the 7.40 we saw from him before. In the infield, he showed quick feet and good overall footwork. His actions were athletic, and his hands were solid. His arm action was compact and he showed some arm quickness out front - which allowed his throws to have on line carry to target. At the plate, he showed a quick bat and did a good job of putting the barrel on the ball. He showed good hand eye coordination, which allowed him to hit the ball to all fields. Can work to solidify his lower body action and balance through contact, can generate more life in his swing from his legs. On the mound, he topped out at 76 with his fastball and showed flashes of a solid breaking ball up to 69. His delivery was inconsistent, mostly with his direction, and his arm action was a bit short out of the glove. Can work on keeping his front side in longer, and on getting some depth out of the glove after breaking hands. Overall, a versatile and athletic player with potential to develop further.

11/08/2009 - College PREP - Shreveport, LA Allen is a lanky, young athlete that plays SS and Catches. At SS, his arm plays well, with a quick release, and carry across the diamond. Allen's velocity was clocked at 84 MPH. He moves well laterally, but could improve by fielding on the balls of his feet, out in front of his body. Behind the dish, his hands are soft, he looks the ball in, and is quick to the ground blocking the ball. If Allen can work to square his body to the target, and have a more quiet set-up, we could see his defensive abilities improve. At the plate, Allen has decent bat speed, an aggressive swing, and keeps his head on the ball well. Getting his arms extended to and through the ball, along with stepping directly toward the pitcher, should help his hitting.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
