Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/RHPPosition Projection

07/28/2017 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Wesley worked out both in the OF and on the mound during his last workout at Pirate City. He currently projects best in the OF, showing active footwork, an athletic fielding position, and the ability to track the ball well off the bat. Wesley fields ground balls properly, gains momentum toward his target, and he throws with a clean exchange and accuracy to his target. On the mound, Wesley battles in the zone while keeping his eyes on target. He has good direction toward home and lands in a controlled position. Offensively, Wesley showed a tall/square set-up, good balance, and a proper load. He has some bat speed through the zone and a level swing path.

05/07/2017 - College PREP - Bowie, MD Wesley is a RHP/OF prospect who will graduate in 2018. In the field, Wesley shows active footwork and is very agile when moving to the ball. He gets into a square position and fields with soft hands. He has a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws which allows them to remain accurate and on-line to his target. Wesley can improve defensively by long tossing to build up his arm strength. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a square stride to the ball. He gets into his load well and comes through the zone with his lower half. Wesley can improve as a hitter by getting into more rhythm at the plate and by taking a more direct swing path to the ball. On the mound, Wesley shows a clean motion with quick arm action and keeps his eyes on his target. He shows a five pitch mix with his four seam fastball topping out at 77mph wit cutting action. Two seam tops out at 79mph with arm side run. Curveball ranges from 66-67mph with 10-4 break. Slider sits from 67-68mph with 10-4 break. Changeup ranges from 74-79mph as he throws with fastball arm speed. Wesley can improve as a pitcher by working to a consistent release point and by finishing with his chest over his front knee. Overall, Wesley is a solid prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the diamond.

12/17/2016 - College PREP - Gambrills, MD Wesley is a lean RHP/OF who will graduate in 2018. Foot speed is well above average as indicated by his 60 time of 7.09. In the OF, he reads balls well off the bat and takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He communicates well and works to get behind balls. At the plate, he shows a squared / athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through a direct / level swing path. He makes consistent contact with power showing best to the pull side. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 68-71 mph. Breaking balls displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Slider is harder with tight spin and sharp bite. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 2 years to further develop, Wesley has abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
