04/21/2013 - College PREP - Plymouth Meeting (Philadelphia), PA William is a tall, lanky OF/3B that will graduate in 2014. Currently, he projects slight better defensively in the OF. Foot speed is solid as indicated by his 7.36 60 time. Feet are active as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls but needs to work on getting behind more to play through and improve defensive grade. At 3B, he works to square balls up but needs to attack balls more and present hands down and out to improve defensive grade. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, Friend shows a balanced approach. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to work to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. William has abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
