01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament William is a talented and versatile athlete who can make things happen in a multitude of ways. As a hitter, this righty displays an open stance with active hands as he works back into a strong launch position. Barrel is delivered to and through the zone on a level path as he works to engage his lower 1/2 well, resulting in some hard hit line-drives. He gets out of the box and down the 1B line quickly, hustling every time and putting pressure on the defense. At SS, William displays active footwork and moves well right to left. Hands are soft as he gathers well, has a quick exchange and fire accurate throws. On the mound, this RHP fills up the zone with strikes. He works the ball in and out, challenges hitters and gives his defense a chance. FB now tops out at 79 mph while showing slight tailing action. Breaking ball has 11/5 shape with good action while changeup is thrown with FB arm speed, helping to create deception. Thorp is a well-rounded 2-way guy who will compete every time he steps onto the diamond.

08/01/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) William is a coachable 2B/RHP prospect who continued to work hard on his skills during his time at the National World Series at Pirate City. In the field, William shows fluid footwork and is very agile moving to the ball. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball with soft hands. He makes a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them consistent to his target. William can improve defensively by long tossing to build up his arm strength. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and takes a short stride. He takes a level swing with decent bat speed which leads to solid contact to all fields. William can improve as a hitter by working a smoother load into his swing. On the mound, William keeps his eyes on target as he gather over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm action and stays inline towards the plate. William shows a four pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 76mph. Breaking ball sits from 66-69mph with 11-5 break. Changeup ranges from 68-69mph with sinking action as he throws with fastball arm speed. Knuckleball sits at 68mph with good tumbling action. William can improve as a pitcher by extending through on his release. Overall, William is a talented prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

12/27/2017 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) William is a coachable 2B/RHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City. In the field, William shows active footwork and is very agile moving to the ball. He gets into a square position and fields the ball with soft hands. He has a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws which allows them to remain accurate and on-line to his target. William can improve defensively by working to improve his fielding to his backhand side. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a tall stance and takes his stride on time. He is smooth getting into his load and comes through well with his lower half. He takes a direct swing with decent bat speed which leads to consistent contact and line drives to the gaps. William can improve as a hitter by consistently keeping his head on the ball throughout his swing. On the mound, William keeps his eyes on his target throughout his motion and works downhill. He has a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 73mph with good cutting action. Breaking ball sits at 63mph with 10-4 break. Changeup ranges from 67-68mph with good sinking action as he throws with fastball arm speed. William can improve as a pitcher by extending through on his release. Overall, William is a solid prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.

11/12/2017 - College PREP - Davie, FL William is a long, lean 2019 two-way player who shows skills both as a pitcher and second baseman. He can really swing it with feel for the barrel and gap to gap ability that makes him a tough out. He is balanced in the box with fluid actions and quick hands through the zone. His bat path is level with good bat speed and a strong lower half that generates pop to make consistent, square contact. At second, he gets to an athletic ready position and reacts quickly to the ball off the bat. He fields with sure hands, funneling the ball in and has a clean exchange to make accurate feeds and throws. Gaining momentum and following his throws will improve velocity and help him make close plays. On the bump, he is fluid in his delivery with repeatable mechanics to show consistent stuff and control. He features a fastball with run and sink at 70mph along with a changeup and knuckleball that has good movement. William is an intriguing prospect we definitely want to keep an eye on.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
