06/22/2013 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 Zach worked out in Omaha at both SS and behind the plate. He currently projects best as a SS for the next level. At SS, Zach has fluid footwork, sure hands, and good pre-pitch actions. He fields athletically, and throws with life and carry from a loose arm action. Playing more out front will help him improve, but this was the best we have seen him defensively thus far. Behind the plate, Zach receives the ball well, sits in low, and has accuracy to 2nd base with his throws. With more work on receiving and blocking, he could blossom into a good catcher. Offensively, Zach has a square set-up, good balance, and fast bat speed. He swings in good rhythm, makes square contact, and he gets his lower 1/2 through creating some power. Keeping his hands back and getting closed quicker will help his hitting grades continue to improve. In gameplay, Zach showed good instincts on the bases, and good leadership on the field. He has a great feel for the game and is a good athlete. He will continue to make improvements as he matures physically.

07/27/2012 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition - Session 5 Zach is a young, athletic SS/2B that will graduate in 2015. He showed improvements across the board since we first saw him earlier this year at his tryout. Defensively, his feet are active as he works to get around balls and squares up, displaying clean hands. He is a good communicator on field and has good pre pitch actions. He needs to play through balls more and present hands more out front to continue to improve defensive grade. Throws are accurate, flashing carry. As a younger player, he will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, Guzi shows a balanced approach with rhythm and good timing with his front foot. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields with power numbers improving as he improves barrel accuracy and uses his lower half more. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, is very coachable, and works hard to be the best he can be. With 3 years to further develop, Zach has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
