09/19/2010 - College PREP - Milwaukee, WI Zach is a young, lean, RHP / OF who will graduate in 2012. On the mound, Zach has a loose arm, good direction toward the plate, and he keeps his eyes to his target. He repeats his delivery well, keeps his arm speed the same with all of his pitches, and he competes in the zone. Zach has some life on his FB and delivers it with some deception to the hitter. Mound effectiveness can further improve if Zach can improve his glove side lead, sharpen his CH, and add arm strength. In the OF, Zach is aggressive to the ball and takes proper routes and angles. He has average hands and feet, and fields appropriate hops on ground balls. Zach throws with good accuracy to his target, and if he can get under the ball sooner, quicken his transfer, and add additional arm strength, OF skills can get better. Offensively, Zach has average balance, barrel accuracy, and use of his lower 1/2. He has a quiet approach, he tries to use the middle of the field, and he puts the ball in play. Zach will need to transfer his weight better, and quicken his bat in order to improve offensive tool grades.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
