Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/1BPosition Projection

07/11/2015 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition - Session 1 Zach showed as a RHP and 1B at the Cape Cod Select Training and Competition with Baseball Factory. Offensively, he showed a contact approach with his direct bat path to contact. He rotated his core to accelerate the barrel through the zone and worked to get into a more athletic stance to improve leg drive and balance. At 1B, he had decent feel around the bag and showed the ability to pick some balls. He did agility drills to help increase his lateral quickness and should boost flexibility to get the glove further in front. On the hill, he threw his FB from 64-67, and spun a SL from 54-55. His ball had some arm side run and with work to stay more directional towards the target, and in his legs will increase velocity. In all - Zach has the fall and winter to increase strength and consistency for his senior spring season.

01/19/2015 - College PREP - Omaha, NE Zach is a 2-way player (RHP/1B) who has a projectable build. On the mound, he has a 3-pitch mix (FB, CB, CH) coming from a low 3/4 arm slot. FB ranges from 64-67 mph while showing slight run. He pounds the zone and throws it for strikes consistently. Breaking ball has 10/4 shape with gradual break. Continuing to utilize his tall frame to drive off the rubber staying on top will help improve effectiveness on all pitches. At 1B, Zach shows active footwork and moves well to field the backhand. He works hard to keep the ball in front and tracks the ball into his mitt. With the bat, this RHH shows a square setup with a solid base. He gets slight separation while his swing is short/compact. More lower 1/2 drive will result in increased power at the plate. A 2016 grad - Zach still has time to develop his skills on the diamond.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
