05/02/2010 - College PREP - Boise, ID Zach is a young catcher with a thin, lean build that shows projection as he continues to physically mature, filling out. Feet work in line to his target as he shows an efficient transfer / exchange. Pop times display a range of 2.18-2.44 with a means of 2.24. Blocking and receiving skills are near average needing further development to be quality tools at the next level. Offensively, Treinen shows a balanced approach and makes consistent contact through a level swing path but has some mechanical flaws that are hindering him from reaching full potential with grades improving quickly with instruction and adjustments. With 2 years to further develop, Zach has abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
