08/01/2010 - College Prep Super Regional - Blue Springs, MO - PM Zach is a young (2013) two-way player at 3B plus on the mound with a small, athletic body that shows projection as he continues to physically mature. Currently, he projects best at 3B. Foot speed is average as indicated by his 7.53 60 time. Feet are active in coming to get, playing through the baseball with his body. Glove action is soft, clean, and sure in making all the plays. Throws flash carry and accuracy as he will benefit by getting on a long toss program to further develop more arm strength. Offensively, Hofman shows a balanced approach with lower half working well through the swing but has some mechanical flaws that are hindering him from reaching his full potential with grades improving with instruction and adjustments. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 68-71 mph on a downhill plane. Off speed pitches are near average needing further development to be quality pitches at the next level. With 3 years to further develop, Zach has abilities with time and room to continue to improve.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
