02/07/2010 - College PREP - Mobile, AL Zach's speed continues to get better as he completed his best 60 yard time with a 6.95. Defensively, he plays down and through the ball well, showing a fundamentally sound approach with his prep step and angles to the baseball. Shows ability to both feed and turn the double play with consistency. Arm strength showing steady improvement but still has room to get better with time and work. Showed life in his barrell offensively with the ability to stay inside the baseball. He lands softly into the hitting position and tracks the ball well. Power numbers improved slightly. Lower half should become more effective as he gets stronger. Overall, Zach has shown steady and consistent improvement in all areas.

02/01/2009 - College PREP - Mobile, AL Zach continues to show steady improvement in his baseball abilities. Foot speed continues to improve as he ran his best home to first time at 4.50. He utilizes his quick feet moving well laterally and displaying range in the middle of the infield. Arm strength is slightly average and does need to get on a strict long toss program to improve arm strength and carry on throws. Defensive abilities have also improved as he displays a solid glove action presented down and out. Hands are soft and sure in making all the plays. He shows off his athletic ability in his turns and feeds of the double play. At the plate, abilities remain solid average as he keeps hands inside the ball, utilizing the entire field. Power numbers have improved and will continue to improve as he learns to utilize the lower half more efficiently at the plate along with more overall body strength added. Allen has abilities with a lot of room to improve.

07/17/2008 - Cape Cod Training 2008 - Week 2 Allen improved his 60-yard dash, down from 7.34 to 7.18. He also showed much better with the glove. His hands were sure, and he moved his feet well to consistently get to the spot to make the play. Showed a good feel for the game, along with improved arm strength - has plenty to play on the 2B side of the bag. Can work to quicken his feet and smooth out his double play feeds. At the plate, he showed a level path and did a good job of using the entire field. Showed good barrel accuracy, and made mostly line drive and hard ground ball contact. Can work to get stride foot down earlier consistently, and needs to make sure to keep his stroke short. Overall, a hard worker with talent - a great combination that usually points to a bright future.

05/25/2008 - College PREP - Nashville, TN Zach has improved a lot since the last time that we saw him over a year ago. Foot speed has improved the most and he utilizes his quick, athletic feet through the fielding process, moves well laterally. Does need some work on his approach and fundamentals with routine ground balls. Arm strength has improved and he needs to stay on a strict long toss program to continue to build. At the plate, Zach displays solid hands but needs to sure up his approach and set up with some work and instruction. He is a line drive type hitter mostly to the pull side. Allen is young, shows potential and still has room and time to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
