10/20/2024 - National Showcase - Lexington, SC Zak Perry is an impressive multi-position prospect from Columbia, SC with significant upside both on the mound and in the field. As a RHP and 3B, Zak demonstrates a well-rounded skill set. His defensive abilities are particularly noteworthy, with a quick and clean exchange and a low, athletic fielding position. He consistently makes accurate throws, showcasing a strong arm and solid defensive mechanics at third base. On the mound, Zak's fastball is clocked at 79 MPH and shows excellent control. He complements his fastball with a curveball (68 MPH) that features late break, making it a difficult pitch for hitters to pick up. His slider (69 MPH) is another weapon in his arsenal, with the ability to throw it for strikes consistently. Zak has shown that he can effectively command all three pitches, demonstrating his potential as a well-rounded pitcher. At the plate, Zak is a strong hitter with excellent power potential. He has the ability to use the whole field, but his power is especially evident to the pull side. He’s consistently strong at the plate, driving the ball with authority, and demonstrates an advanced approach to hitting. Overall, Zak Perry is a versatile and dynamic player with a bright future. His combination of strong defense, pitching prowess, and hitting ability makes him a well-rounded prospect with significant potential to contribute at a higher level.

03/17/2024 - National Showcase - Greenville, SC Zak continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 3B, defensive abilities are solid as he shows smooth/fluid actions. Feet are active as attacks balls and plays through with his body. Hands are clean but needs to present more out front. Throws are accurate with carry (82 mph exit velocity) on his throws. At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 71-74 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Slider resembles breaking ball. Control is outstanding as he throws strikes with all his pitches.

01/28/2024 - National Showcase - Myrtle Beach, SC Zak is a 2027 RHP/3B out of West Columbia, SC. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 3B, he displays clean/smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls up and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball shows a range 70-71 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for Zak as he enters his freshman baseball season.

12/27/2023 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Zak is a 2027 RHP/3B out of West Columbia, SC who continues to impress with his baseball abilities and did so at the Pirate City Christmas Camp & Tournament. At 3B, he displays proper footwork as he works to square balls up. Glove action is clean and fields out front. Throws are accurate with carry (81 mph velocity) to his target. At the plate, he shows a line drive approach. Hands are quick (81 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing. He gets good separation and has strength with gap-to-gap pop. Lower half works well through the swing as he transfers weight into a firm front side. At the event, he was 3 for 3 with a BB and HBP. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 75 mph. Fastball shows cutting action on a downhill plane. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with sweeping action. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with slight sink. Control is solid as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. He shows good poise with composure on the bump. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

10/15/2023 - National Showcase - Lexington, SC Zak is a solid RHP/3B who has a promising future on the diamond. At 3B, he displays clean/smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls but needs to play through with his body. Glove action is clean and presents out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws have carry (80 mph velocity) to his target. At the plate, he shows an open setup. Hands are quick (81 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 67-71 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with slight tailing action. With 4 years to further develop, Zak has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
