09/19/2010 - College PREP - Milwaukee, WI Zak is a young, thin, tall, 2-way player that will graduate in 2012. On the mound, Zak repeats his delivery well and has good separation. He has good glove side lead, he uses his lower 1/2 well, and he attacks hitters aggressively. Mound effectiveness can get better if Zak can keep his eyes to his target, improve his release point, and add arm strength. In the INF, Zak makes the routine plays and turns the double play nicely. He has an average arm action and throws accurately across the diamond. Defensive grades can get better if Zak can soften his hands, improve his footwork, and avoid standing straight up when throwing. At the plate, Zak has average balance, bat speed, and barrel accuracy. He has an okay set-up, he attempts to be quiet and direct to the ball, and the ball comes off hard when he stays inside. Offensive numbers can get better if Zak can loosen his actions and tap into more lower 1/2.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
