12/07/2014 - College PREP - Nyack (NYC), NY Zane is a lean, athletic RHP/OF that will graduate in 2015. In the OF, he utilizes his active feet well in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls as he reads balls well off the bat. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he increases his foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a squared / balanced setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 74-76 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Control is solid as he works to throw strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and develops better off speed stuff. Zane has abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
